Last Time They Were Here… This is our first meeting with Biggleswade, they were founded in 2016
Did you know… During the ‘Piranha Brothers’ sketch in the famous Monty Python’s Flying Circus show, the town of Biggleswade is mentioned. It is also mentioned in the Doomsday Book under the old anglo-saxon spelling of ‘Bichelesuuade’ and twice in the diary of Samuel Pepys from the year 1661, when his wife wrote to him that she was staying at the Sun Inn in the town on her way back from York.
On this day in Rovers history… In 2012, Rovers hosted Cranfield United in a friendly, winning 9-0 and then in 2015, while still in the United Counties League, beat Southern Premier side Hitchin Town 3-1, also in a friendly.
Using Biggleswade Town’s youth team as their basis, Biggleswade FC formed in 2016 and were admitted into the Spartan South Midlands League, Division One. They won this at their first attempt and finished fifth in the premier division last season. They also reached the semi final of the county cup where they lost out to eventual runners up Biggleswade Town, who had beaten Rovers in the first round.
