Kempston Rovers signed off their pre-season friendly schedule with a late win against Sandridge Rovers.
The game was very evenly contested, belying the three division gap between the two sides. Sandridge hit the post and forced a very good save from Conway in the Rovers goal.
In the second half, Rovers began to press the issue but couldn’t get shots away. Goodman spurned a chance, pulling his shot wide, before Collard put over the bar from very close in after a mix up following a corner. The deadlock was finally broken just a few minutes from time with a neat low finish when clear through on goal by one of Rovers’ trialists. The away side were protesting vehemently for an offside flag, however the goal scorer was being played on by the visitors number 4 in the middle as he ran through.
Rovers open their league campaign on Saturday 18th with a trip to Chesham United’s Meadow ground to face tenants Aylesbury United, a fixture that has seen Rovers run out two nil winners in both previous meetings. Hillgrounds hosts its’ first league action of the season on Tuesday 21st with a visit from newly promoted Coleshill Town. Rovers will then have a shot at another FA Cup run on the 25th with an away tie at Desborough Town, who narrowly edged a 4-3 thriller at Arlesey Town to set up fixture.
