Did you know… When we visited Cambridge City in November, at Histon, the talk of their committee room was the new stadium development project. The club’s official website states; Initial work at the new stadium site in Sawston is poised to start in the coming weeks.
The actual stadium construction looks likely to be authorised in May with building work anticipated to start shortly afterwards.
Once this initial work is completed, the focus will then turn to the construction phase which will really excite our supporters and give them belief that our years in the wilderness are coming to an end”.
The site in Sawston will see a 3,000 capacity stadium and community facility built which will be a new home for Cambridge City after they vacated their historic Milton Road stadium in 2013
In the bar The North London Derby is on BT before our match, then join us for a drink after the game to watch West Ham take on Newcastle live on Sky.
On this day in Rovers history… Rovers have only lost three games on this date in their 135 year history. Notable results on this date include two semi final wins, firstly against St. Neots in 1929 in the Hinchingbrooke Cup in a game played at Huntingdon, then again in 1935 when Arlesey Town were beaten at home in the North Beds. Charity Cup.
Most recently on this date, Rovers drew 3-3 with Desborough Town in 2013. Sam Macrae scored twice and Josh Bamford got the other in front of a crowd of just 39 people.
In recent weeks, The Tony Joyce and Stuart Mellon Revolution have seen Kempston becoming tougher to beat. Having a settled side for a large part of the run that has seen the club lose just three of their last thirteen has yielded success. Rovers will need all of that positive energy in their current run of fixtures, having faced Bromsgrove and Corby on the last two weekends, next weekend sees the club travel to Peterborough Sports before facing Bedford Town.
The end of the season will see two sides relegated from this league to Step 5 of the non league pyramid, however with the FA’s regulations from 2014 regarding dressing room size coming into effect this summer, a lot of clubs are frantically trying to meet ground-grading standards. With Aylesbury FC already admitting defeat on that score, it may be that only one other side from this division will drop down this summer.
