Rovers made the cross country trip over to Chesham high on confidence following last week's win over Kidlington. Scott Dash was absent for this game so Mark Royal to the reigns in the dugout. There were just the two changes for Rovers, Laws (illness) and Tearle (end of loan) dropped out, with Garrett-Douglas and McShane replacing them.
It was just nine minutes in and Rovers took the lead. Hayford picking the ball up on the half way line and his pass put through Charles on the left, the winger then drilled the ball across the six yard box for Wielblad to divert home, his 4th of the season.
The lead didn't last long however, Seaton with one of the goals of the season as he picked the ball up 25 yards out and found the top corner.
The game settled however was very open, with both sides having half chances and a booking for both sides, Johnson the player in the book for Rovers.
Rovers were forced into a double change at the break, Cooper and McShane both picking up knocks and having to be replaced by Payne and Dahie.
The Ducks made a strong start to the second 45, almost scoring straight from kick off but thanks to the feet of Ringer it was kept level. However, deservedly took the lead just seven minutes in, Dahie's clearance from Bewley's cross was only half cleared and it fell back to the full back to find Lewthwaite from two yards out to divert in off the crossbar.
Rovers flipped the ascendency and created numerous chances to equalise, Hayford, Charles and Wielblad all with chances they would like to have again. Royal was forced into his final change on the hour mark, Stratton being forced off this time and Baker having 30 minutes to make an impact.
However, after a free kick was floated into the hands of the Ducks goalkeeper, his long kick found Lewthwaite who squared to Jones to strike past Ringer as Rovers were outnumbered at the back.
There were no major opportunities as the game petered out, securing Aylesbury United's safety this season. A win for Hertford at North Leigh has left Rovers four points off Hertford and Kidlington above them, with also an inferior goal difference.
We head to Wantage on Easter Saturday and then Biggleswade on Easter Monday looking to get maximum points before our final league game of the season at home to Waltham Abbey.
