The pitch at Hillgrounds was looking magnificent with just three weeks until the league campaign starts. The variation in weather over the week definitely helped, as well as the hard work put in by our groundsmen.
Rovers went into this game missing defenders Jordan Wright and Robbie Goodman, so started with a back four of Beldon, Powell, Jones and Hyde. Goalkeeper Knox was back in between the sticks, and McLeod led the line up front. Manager Tony Joyce also had four trialists starting for The Walnuts.
The first half was very end to end, a number of half chances for either side. Powell had the best of the opportunities for Rovers, heading wide from a couple of set pieces. Jones hobbled off on the half hour mark after going down following a corner. The centre half was brought off to avoid the risk of further injury.
The visitors grabbed the only goal of the game on the hour mark, with a shot from the edge of the box finding the bottom corner. A number of changes were made by both sides which took the tempo out of the game, but gave important minutes for a number of trialists to impress.
The game ended 1-0 to the visitors. Rovers have two more home pre-season games this week, starting with St Ives on Tuesday and Wisbech Town on Saturday.
