Gorleston put Pinchbeck United of the United Counties Premier division out of the FA Cup in the Extra Preliminary Round. This means that Rovers travel into uncharted territory for this game, as Pinchbeck play at Spalding, a venue that Rovers have visited many times before. Rovers travelled to Gorleston’s near neighbours and rivals Great Yarmouth Town at this stage of the FA Cup in the year 2000, making this the second most easterly venue for Rovers ever to play a senior competitive match.
Kempston have started with a win and a defeat so far, with Gareth Hunt coming off quite badly as a result of an awful challenge being the only doubt for the trip. Rovers have named the same matchday sixteen for both fixtures, with subtle changes to the starting eleven on Tuesday.
One name that crops up in the “played for both” column is Sam Johnson, the energetic forward had a spell with The Greens very early in his career before joining Rovers. He since had a spell playing in New Zealand before coming ‘home’ to Hillgrounds. He now plays for AFC Rushden & Diamonds
