The league campaign is upon us, and begins on the road as we head south to face Waltham Abbey. The Abbey gained the double over Rovers last season, winning 4-2 and 2-1 in the fixtures, so maybe once again goals guaranteed?
Waltham Abbey started their season with FA Cup success over Woodford Town last Saturday, winning 4-1 despite playing with 10 men for 40 minutes, although they were 3-0 up at the time. An 11th placed finish for the Essex club who were at times flirting slightly with relegation, but a good spell at the end of the season stay well clear of safety.
Rovers will be looking to start the season in winning fashion, after the uplift of last Saturday's late win over Long Melford. Rovers have no new injury worries ahead of the game so will be looking near enough full strength as they make the journey.
There is a quick turnaround for Rovers as we open our campaign at Hillgrounds on Tuesday as we host Welwyn Garden City.
For supporters travelling south this Saturday, the most direct route is via the M1/A1 and M25 leaving at either junction 25 or 26, not much difference. Waltham Cross is the best bet by train, but will involve a long walk or taxi ride to the ground. To do this you would need to go into London and change over to Liverpool St to grab the connection.
A safe journey to all Walnuts making the trip, your support is hugely appreciated.
