Did you know… In the post Roman or Arthurian period (The Dark Ages), the nucleus of Coleshill moved about a kilometre to the south, to the top of the hill. Here the present church is set and the medieval town developed around it. By 1066 the town was a Royal Manor held by King Edward the Confessor and is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as land held by William the Con-queror
Coleshill village was granted a market charter by King John in 1207, alongside Liverpool, Leek and Great Yarmouth..
In the bar The Premier League ‘winter break’ reduces the fixtures to the two live games. Southampton host Burnley at lunchtime while tea time sees Norwich host Liverpool, although if Macca gets hold of the TV remote, we’ll be watching the rugby!
On this day in Rovers history… 1896 – Rovers win 1-0 in a home friendly vs “Mr. Baker’s XI”
1908 – A 7-1 home rout of Wootton Blue Cross
1936 – Another seven goal haul as Rovers see off Shredded Wheat (love that name) 7-3
1958 – Raunds Town were sent packing 7-2
In recorded games on this date, Rovers have won seven out of eleven. It was meant to be twelve matches on this date, but in 1913 Goldington scratched the fixture, giving Rovers the points.
