Kempston headed into the game on the back of four unbeaten, whereas the OD’s were in action for the first time since New Years Day. Scott Dash made three changes from Tuesday's win at St Neots, Debayo, Dahie and Hayford coming in for Cooper, Burrows and Wielblad.
The first half was very limited on chances, Rovers once again looking to play on the counter, and AFC looking to utilise the powerful front men.
The best chance was for the visitors, a powerful header from Frater was excellently saved by Knox in the Rovers net from corner.
Bakogeorge was forced off with a hamstring injury at the break, Drakulic coming on to replace him on the flank.
Into the second half and the game started opening up with AFC having more possession, and the breakthrough came on the hour mark. Good work down the right from Carney where he went past Lodovica and DeMatos and rolled the ball across the six yard box for McClelland to tuck home from a yard out.
The lead was doubled fifteen minutes later, prolific striker Christie got the upper hand on the Kempston defence and spun before unleashing a powerful strike past Knox.
AFC seemed comfortable until Kempston got a late corner which was swung in by Hayford and via a touch or two it ended in the net, unclear or not whether it’ll go down as the forward’s tenth of the season.
The game petered out and Rovers succumbed to their first defeat in over a month, not after a bit of handbags towards the end where DeMatos brought Christie down, resulting in the OD's forward reacting to the Rovers left back and some would say fortunate not to get his second yellow. DeMatos and Drakulic were both cautioned for their involvement.
Our next match is this Tuesday where we host Leighton Town in the Beds Senior Trophy. Admission for this match will be reduced to £6 for adults, £3 for concessions.
