A vital match at the foot of the Southern League D1 Central on Saturday afternoon as 18th placed Kempston welcomed 16th placed Kidlington to Hillgrounds.
Manager Scott Dash made five changes following last week's poor showing at Thame. Three of the back four changed, with Ronayne, Cooper and Laws coming in for Payne, Debayo and Garrett-Douglas. Mensah and Dahie were also absent, meaning Tearle and returning captain Stratton slotted in to the middle of the park.
The home side playing in their blue shorts and socks to help raise funds for manager Scott Dash’s sons who are diagnosed with autism, made the brighter start to proceedings. A cross from Sam Johnson found Charlie Hayford who set Tre Charles to volley into the top corner to put the hosts 1-0 up.
20 minutes later and it was two, Charles this time setting Johnson through on the right, he cut onto his left and his shot beat Way in the Greens’ net.
On 35 minutes more good work from Charles on the left as he put the ball on a plate for Wielblad to tuck into the empty net, but the Rovers forward couldn't connect.
Ringer in the Rovers net was forced into action two minutes later, denying Wells with his feet when through on goal.
The second half had a lot of pressure from the visitors, and after a number of set pieces Jack White converted from close range following another good save from Ringer.
The pressure continued however Rovers were putting bodies on the line and defending valiantly. The defending paid off as Rovers wrapped the game up in stoppage time, Charles once again involved as his cross was directed to Wielblad, however a Kidlington defended poked the ball home before it could reach the Rovers forward.
An important win for Rovers as they close the gap to their opponents to four points, and now only one point behind Hertford with four games to play. Next up for Rovers is a trip to Aylesbury United on Saturday.
